The MLM (the Museum of Lake Minnetonka) is a non-profit organization located at Lake Minnetonka that basically operates the historic steamboat Minnehaha, and in so doing, promotes the fascinating early history of Lake Minnetonka. The MLM is a 'floating' museum and presently does not have a store front.
Beginning in 1990, as the "Steamboat Division" of the Minnesota Transportation Museum, the new all-volunteer organization completely restored and returned to passenger service the seventy foot, one hundred passenger 1906 steamboat Minnehaha. In the early 2000's the MTM decided to restructure the museum and spin off the streetcar and steamboat divisions and focus on their steam trains, roundhouse and vintage buses. Thus the MLM was founded, incorporated and is now its own operation entity.
The MLM is an all-volunteer, 501-(C)(3) museum with its own board of directors and its own member base. It is hoped that someday it will have an actual museum building to house and display the many historical artifacts that it has acquired about our early transportation history.
