Big Island Wilderness Adventure

June 18th and 19th, 2011

The Museum of Lake Minnetonka has declared June 18th and 19th Big Island Wilderness Adventure Weekend. In conjuction with the City of Orono and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, the Steamboat Minnehaha will be shuttling riders to and from the Big Island park on Saturday and Sunday.

The Big Island Park has an interesting HISTORY, including a period of time as an Amusement Park, a Veteran's Camp and more recently, a City Park. When the City of Orono purchased the park in 2006, it was decided they would maintain it as a natural preserve. Their partnership with the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is helping make this a reality. Therefore when we visit the park by steamboat the following applies:

NO FACILITIES- WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE
CARRY IN/CARRY OUT

Come and enjoy Big Island's hiking paths, meadows and woods, majestic lake views and perfect settings for outdoor picnics. Volunteers will be on site to hand out self-guided tour booklets and Big Island Historians and naturalists will be available thoughout the day to answer your questions.

Discover the wild life and plant life in the 56 acre park!
